Descriptive writing
This week we continued on with looking at descriptive writing and created our own descriptive piece about the pirate we created last week. As a class we did some "shared writing" and revised the structure of a description. The children are really starting to understand that there are four parts to a description - a title, an introduction, the characteristics of the thing being described and the evaluation and some of the writing produced was of a very high standard. After doing what we call our "sloppy copy" (a draft), the children wrote up a good copy in their writing books. We also explored reading our work fluently and making our reading interesting for a listener by using "Storyrobe" on our iPads to make a recording of our description. Here are some of the finished recordings.
Multiplied by...
In Maths, we have spent the week doing more work on multiplication. The children are getting very comfortable with the idea of multiplication being "groups of", and they are also able to represent multiplication problems as arrays.Once again, I have had the opportunity to indulge in my interest in using picture books to teach Maths concepts, and I used two new books I bought earlier in the year for the first time. The children loved both of them, and they are both absolutely fantastic books for exploring multiplication.
